Are you wired with an inability to turn off at the end of the day? Maybe you feel wired and tired, and power through but feel unmotivated. Or are you just tired with a strong sense of overwhelm and exhaustion? If you said yes to one of those, you may have adrenal fatigue or adrenal burnout.

In this episode of the Renewed Mama Podcast, we are renewing our health by learning more about our supporting our adrenals.

My guest is Kristen Files, a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and Master Restorative Wellness Practitioner.  She is the owner of Forest Creek Wellness, a boutique functional nutrition practice in Austin, Texas as well as a homeschool mom to four.

Kristen helps exhausted and overwhelmed, busy moms use food to nourish their bodies and their families.  Real food is medicine.  Kristen helps us understand our adrenals and how we can support them.

Ready to Support Your Adrenal Health?

Kristen shares her story of how she was “born exhausted,” and had an alphabet soup of health concerns such as thyroid issues, zero energy, extra weight, anemia, no motivation, always irritable, and not a positive thought.  (minute 3:40)

What Adrenal Glands Do

Kristen explains what our adrenal glands are, the role they play in our bodies, and what adrenal fatigue is. (minute 7:00)

She explains the symptoms we experience when we have dysregulated adrenals or adrenal fatigue such as exhaustion or overwhelm, vision issues, wearing sunglasses or sensitive of bright light, dizziness from sitting to standing, shin splints, cravings for salt and sugar, constant sicknesses, brain fog, memory issues, and infertility. (minute 9:47)

The Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue

Kristen has a great way of describing the symptoms of adrenal fatigue as wired, wired and tired, or just tired.  (minute 12:34) Wired is a go, go, go, can’t turn it off at night, can’t focus on one thing at a time, high alert all the time. They might experience heart palpitations, anxiety, insomnia, and weight gain.  Their motto is “Rosé all day.”

Wired and tired means relying on willpower to power through the day. Someone who is wired and tired may experience depressive episodes, lack of motivation, low thyroid, and an inability to concentrate. Additonally, they procrastinate and then loose motivation when they are three quarters of the way done. Therefore, Kristen says their motto is “First coffee” because they need an outside energy to keep them going.

Another symptom is just tired which means someone cannot leave the house because they need to nap for a few hours after running an errand. They are apathetic, not interested in things, have sensitive feelings, and everything sets them off. Their motto is, “I like to party and by party, I mean naps.”

Motherhood doesn’t have to be exhausting and hard as Kristen shared (minute 40:32). Our hormones are the lens through which we see the world.

Surely one of the most important jobs in the world is motherhood, and we need to feel good to be able to do it.
