Love Your Body and Fuel It Well

My guest today is Jess Brown, a Registered Dietitian who started with an eating disorder but fell in love with how God has intricately designed our bodies.  When overcoming a disordered relationship with food, she learned how to eat intentionally without being obsessive and how to incorporate play with exercise.  The result was loads more energy, resiliency, and a feeling of peace in her body.   

Jess is a wife, mama, and a whole body health and nutrition research junkie. 

She is the podcast host of Fuel Her Awesome, and she is not afraid to talk about poo and eating empowered to have more energy, a clear mind, great sleep, and an agile limber body.  I know you are going to enjoy this episode.

Find Food Freedom

Jess shares what food freedom means.  (minute 3:37) She shares how the pendulum swings from hyperattention to eating pure foods and avoiding food chemicals to not caring at all what foods are eaten. She shares what food freedom can look like when you combine your life values with what health means to you. Then you can choose foods that empower and fuel your body.

Fuel Your Body Well

Life is chaotic and rushed with so many things on the go.  Jess likes to say, “Don’t just eat.  Fuel your awesome.”  (minute 7:55) Jess shares how you can eat mindfully so that you have high energy, a clear mind, resiliency, great poos, and health for the ones you love, for the things you want to do and get to do, and for living a good, long life. Jess encourages us to ask, “What is the mission of this nutrition? What is the purpose of this food on our plate?” Her suggestions here are fantastic if you ever have the struggle of whether you should enjoy a donut or not with your kids!

Love Your Body and Find Body Confidence

Next, we talk about body confidence and how to have a positive body image.  (minute 11:39) It is more than just liking your body shape or being comfortable in it. Jess shares how it is caring and respecting your body regardless of what it looks like.

Nurture Your Body and Soul just as Much as You Nurture Your Family

Jess wants you to know how important your role is as a mom, and that your body, your mind, and your soul is just as important as the family you are growing. Care for yourself in the same way you care for your family. (minute 13:41) When you nurture and tend to yourself, you in turn have a higher capacity to love and meet the needs of others.

Fill Up on Foods that Fuel Your Body Well

Jess shares awesome, powerful foods to add to your plate to fuel your body today. (minute 18:47) Protein is more powerful as you age, so start eating 25 grams of protein per meal. Get adequate fiber from whole foods to bless your gut health and improve your mental health because both are connected.
