Breaking Your Child’s Spirit – Conversation with Pastor René McIntyre

Kimberly Muhtar and Pastor Rene McIntyre talk about breaking your child's spirit

Have you ever broken your child’s spirit?  Their face drops, their shoulders droop.

One mom said that her daughter just looked at her blankly, no emotion, nothing.  Just sitting there, looking so small and fragile, and trying not to cry.

Haven’t We all Broken our Child’s Spirit?

I have broken my children’s spirits more times than I want to count.  Haven’t all of us who are parents broken our child’s spirits at some point?  We’ve gotten angry, frustrated, annoyed, felt like our child’s behavior was out of control, and we lost it.  Screamed.  Shouted.  Threatened.  Said something we didn’t mean to say.  Maybe we did mean to say it because we were so upset.

We lose self-control.  We speak to our children from our own past pain, from dissatisfaction with our lives, from expectations we may not have even expressed.

Our children do not yet have the discernment to know that Mommy doesn’t mean that or that Mommy is working through her own stuff.

We don’t realize that the weight of our words spoken to our children whether good or negative always comes back to them.

I am so excited to share this episode of the Renewed Mama Podcast with you.  I had a conversation about all of this with Pastor Rene McIntyre who had me on her radio show called the Barefoot Preacher.  Pastor Rene was the one who started our conversation with how we often break our children’s spirits when we let our words get out of control.  I appreciated everything she shared.  This is such a golden conversation.  I pray that it blesses you as we work together to think right, to speak right, and to respond right as Moms.

Need Help being Intentional with Your Words?

Mama, if you need help being intentional with your words – in what you are thinking, in what you say to yourself and to your children, and in how you respond,

If you feel like you are always shouting…your children don’t listen unless you shout.

If you are tired if nagging them to do their chores or their schoolwork.  How many times do you have to remind them to brush their teeth before bed?

If there is chaos and arguing among your children. Why can’t they get along?

You love your children so much, but you wish you would enjoy being with them more….

Don’t wait another minute to do one of these two things or better yet, both:

Get a Speak Life Badges sticker book.

Choose between I Am Special, I am Priceless, and I am Smart or get all three and start using the scripts to help you know a better way to speak to your children.

Reading the script will give you time to calm down, to put aside the frustration, and come to them with a heart of teaching and keeping the relationship whole.

Giving your child a sticker badge that they can wear to remind them of who they can grow to be even though it’s not there yet will get their attention and be a new, fresh way to handle those teaching moments.

I Bless You, Mama

I bless you, Mama.  There is no one else who loves your children more than you do.  You demonstrate that love in all you do even when folding the laundry, cleaning toilets, and making lunches and tucking them in for bed at night.

Your children love you, too, Mama.  You are their first love.

You are doing the very best you can with what you know now.  We all are.  Keep tuning in to the Renewed Mama Podcast to keep growing as a Mama yourself.  We are transforming our homes, our lives, our marriages, and our children as we choose to think right, to speak right, and to respond right.
